Mona Mhatre, DO

Mona Mhatre, DO is a specialist in the field physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Mhatre completed her residency program in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Washington University School of Medicine, in Missouri, where she was elected and appointed Academic Chief Resident, as well as being awarded Resident of the Year. While attending Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Mhatre submitted several articles for a national publication, Rehab in Review, where she acted as the regional editor for all monthly article summaries submitted by the residents in the physical medicine and rehabilitation program. Dr. Mhatre completed her medical degree at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences- College of Osteopathic Medicine. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, where she received academic scholarships from Frank G. Crowell Scholarship and the Greater University Fund Scholarship.

Dr. Mhatre is proficient in advanced medical Spanish, as well as American Sign Language. She is currently involved in a study designed to determine characteristics of healthcare in women with disabilities in order to understand the unique barriers faced by these patients in this population. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and American Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP).

  • Principal Investigator in study designed to determine characteristics of healthcare in women with disabilities (ages 19-80) in order to understand the unique barriers faced by patients in this population (data collection still in progress)

Cognitive Impairment in Multiple Sclerosis, May 2001 – May 2002

  • Sub- investigator in study of the cognitive performance of patients with Multiple Sclerosis during periods of high and low fatigue.

  • Assisted rehabilitation team in evaluating children with disabilities and finding the appropriate equipment to meet his or her individual needs

Volunteer at Migrant Health Clinic September – November 2004

  • Provided access for migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families to comprehensive, culturally competent primary care services in rural Northwest Ohio.

  • Tutored and mentored children ranging in age from 5 -18 in the greater Kansas City area an average of 2 hours a week as a member of this community service club.
