Mark B. Dekutoski, MD is internationally recognized as a pioneer, educator and leader in orthopedic spine surgery. He is a board certified and fellowship-trained, academic orthopedic spine surgeon with more than 20 years of orthopedic experience at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Dekutoski specializes in adult and pediatric minimally-invasive spine deformity-scoliosis, kyphosis, spine tumors, spondylolisthesis and disc degeneration. He is a leader in his field and has over sixty peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Dekutoski received his fellowship training at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Spine Center at the University of Minnesota. He completed his orthopedic surgical residency, internship, and medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan.
Dr. Dekutoski has held numerous professional positions and major appointments including, but not limited to, Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota, and progressed to Consultant and Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the Mayo College of Medicine. He served as a principle mentor to orthopedic and neurological surgeon trainees in complex spine surgery, as well as, developed the posterior percutaneous instrumentation Longitude® and pioneered percutaneous deformity, tumor and trauma techniques. Dr. Dekutoski has served as Chairman of the Mayo Clinic Medical School Orthopedic curriculum and Chair of the Scoliosis Research Society and AOSpine North America Educational committees. He has presented over 300 lectures at Continuing Medical Education events.
Dr. Dekutoski was the Editor for a supplement of the Spine, the most cited orthopedic journal. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Spinal Disorders, on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Current Surgery and serves as a reviewer for Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS), SPINE and other publications. He is a collaborator in SPINENET Research Group and a member of numerous professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), Musculoskeletal Infection Society of America (MSIS-NA), North American Spine Society (NASS), Orthopedic Research Society (ORS) and Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS).
