John A. Kearney Jr., MD
Dr. Kearney is a board certified and fellowship-trained specialist in non-surgical, rehabilitative, and medical aspects of sports medicine. He is highly skilled in non-operative treatment options and rehabilitative principles for most musculoskeletal problems and injuries. He works closely with CORE surgeons to ensure that both non-surgical and surgical care is optimized. Dr. Kearney is also experienced with the array of unique medical issues that athletes face and acts as a consultant for these problems. This scope includes, but is not limited to: concussion management, infectious disease, medical clearance/ return-to-play decisions and sports nutrition. Throughout his career, Dr. Kearney has been very involved in the community he serves. He is currently the Medical Director of the Arizona Sports Medicine Society and also the Medical Director and liaison for the Ride Clean Professional Cycling team. He serves as team physician for both Centennial and Peoria High Schools. Additionally, he remains committed to and involved with academic medicine. He is the Director of Sports Medicine and Associate Clinical Faculty at Phoenix Baptist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program where he routinely teaches and lectures to medical students and Resident Physicians on various orthopedic and sports medicine subject matter. Dr. Kearney completed his fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was the primary team physician for three universities, two colleges, and the Minnesota State High School League. He completed his residency training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He received his medical degree from the University of Arizona where he graduated with the highest distinction possible in the “Top One-Third” of his medical school class. Dr. Kearney began his educational training at Arizona State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, summa cum laude. While there, he was a Maroon and Gold Scholar Athlete as a walk-on member of the men’s basketball team and was also honored as the convocation speaker for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Dr. Kearney has received the 2010 PHOENIX Magazine’s Top Doctors distinction for Sports Medicine.
