
Michelle Varnell is a Research Associate and Certified Athletic Trainer for the Banner SHRI-CORE Orthopedic Research Labs. She recently completed her thesis “The Relationship Between Upper Body Posture and Scapular Kinematics in Older Adults” to fulfill the requirements for a Master's of Science in Sports Health Care from A.T. Still University.
While in the Graduate Athletic Training Program, she served for one year as the Vice Chair of Student Government, and was actively involved in the Athletic Training Organization, from which she had the opportunity to give several talks and workshops in areas related to anatomy, gait and emergency management of athletic injuries.
Prior to graduate school, Michelle attended and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training with a Minor in Political Science from Grand Canyon University. While at Grand Canyon University, Michelle was active in several club organizations, as well as student government. In the summer of 2004 she sat for the National Board of Certification Exam, and received her credentials as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Since graduation and prior to joining the SHRI-CORE research team, Michelle has worked as an Assistant, and Head Athletic Trainer at several local high schools in the greater Phoenix Area.
Michelle's research interests include shoulder biomechanics, specifically related to scapular kinematics, as well as sport performance and enhancement.
