John A. Brown, MD
John A. Brown, MD is a fellowship-trained specialist in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, ankle and joint preserving techniques. He is also a leader in the field of shoulder replacement surgery.
Dr. Brown received his bachelor of science degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He then earned his master's degree in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University in Rockville, Maryland.
Dr. Brown received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine where he graduated second in his class. During his medical education, he received numerous awards including the Charles Epps Orthopedic Award for excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. He excelled during his orthopedic training at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Brown completed an 18 month sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at the Santa Monica Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group where he received extensive, cutting-edge training in knee reconstruction and articular cartilage transplantation as well as the most recent techniques in shoulder surgery.
He has been involved in the care of multiple professional sports clubs, the men’s and women’s World Cup and Olympic soccer teams, as well as Pepperdine University and numerous high school football teams. During his training he has cared for all levels of athletes and looks forward to continuing such care with The CORE Institute.
Dr. Brown has always been active in academic medicine. He has written and contributed to numerous articles and chapters in academic journals and textbooks. He routinely lectures on a variety of sports medicine topics to both community groups and at academic symposiums. He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. He is very proud of his membership in the prestigious medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.
Dr. Brown is married and is the proud father of three. He enjoys skiing, golfing and fishing. He and his wife are originally from the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
